ABOUT BONSAI DIRECT

Welcome to my online bonsai nursery. My name is Lloyd Noall and to say that I have a passion for bonsai is an understatement for it is in my blood. I started on the bonsai journey in my late teens. My first bonsai was a little fig, which of course I killed with over zealousness. After that I went on to grow numerous other bonsai, some pre-styled and some from raw material. After about ten years of growing and learning I realised that one of the problems with the art of bonsai is the misunderstanding that surrounds it. This is where my quest began.

I wanted to show people that bonsai were not weird, difficult, contorted little things that only Mr Moyogi could grow. So I started a bonsai nursery. It never really occurred to me if I would make money, I just wanted to grow bonsai and to show others how to do the same. The nursery grew and grew, with thousands of bonsai and two fully equipped classrooms with hundreds of students regularly attending. It soon became one of the top bonsai nurseries in the UK.

Over the years I have given lectures, hosted bonsai festivals, taught hundreds of people and hopefully inspired many others. I had about 50 regular students, some of whom are still with me. After about 10 years of bonsai nursery life it was time for me to move on. I no longer had the time to dedicate myself to learning about the art which has steered my life. Business has a nasty habit of destroying art, for the two are very different.

I sold the nursery and along with my wife, two daughters and new born son took up life in the mid Devon countryside. Now I have the time to devote to growing beautiful works of art. I am a perfectionist, which requires time and skill. I pay great attention to detail which go towards making the over all picture a “master piece”. Nature can create stunning affects in seconds but it is time that yields the results that we envy. A dead branch looks dramatic, but the way the tree heals its wound is incredible and if done correctly, on a bonsai, will look beautiful.

The Bonsai I have offered here for sale are examples of my work. They are of course all unfinished as a bonsai is only finished when the last root is void of life. They are at various stages of development, but each one, whether it is £50 or £500 is treated with the same attitude. With the right follow up care and training these bonsai will grow into fantastic living works of art, that are representations of natures towering sculptures.

The price of my bonsai is related to the amount of time and work that has gone into an individual tree. It also reflects the overall potential taking into to account things like trunk and branch taper, the start of the trunk where it connects with the ground, the branch structure and of course the over all shape and style.

I hope you enjoy my work

All the best

Lloyd Noall
