Feeding your bonsai

We have just received the following question about feeding bonsai from a customer:

I have just purchased a Elm Bonsai tree (see photograph)
I was wondering if you could tell me how often do i need to feed it with fertilizer?

Dear Bhavesh,
Thank you for your order and your question.
This is actually a really good question.
I would recommend that you always use a bonsai fertiliser becuase other fertilisers may be too strong and burn the roots.
Secondly; please follow the manufacturers instructions because different fertilisers have different strengths.
If you are using the liquid bonsai feed, that we stock, I would recommend feeding this bonsai once a fortnight now and once a week in the spring in summer, when the Chinese Elm bonsai is actively growing.
This will keep your bonsai strong & healthy.
I hope this helps
kind regards

  2. Bought 5ft ginsine bonsai. The leaves are falling off. Why is this happening???

    1. Dear Karen,
      Thank you for your enquiry.
Please can you tell me when you purchased the bonsai and where you position it and how often you water it?
Are the leaves just falling or are they going crispy or changing colour?
Have you fed the bonsai with anything?
If you would like to send me a photograph to [email protected] I am sure we can get to the bottom of this and be able to advise you.
      Kind regards

  3. Hi Valerie,
Please could you check to see if the leaves are going crispy/papery or if still soft or limp.

    1. Yes the leaves are going crispy and turning yellowy. Thank you for your reply.

  4. Hi guy’s n gal’s loving my Chinese Elm but leaves are falling daily🙈 delivered 5/11/21 been using water with feed in every day plus mist spray, they keep falling off. Need advice many thanks☺️

    1. Dear Daniel,
Thanks for your message. It is likely the bonsai is re-acclimatising. There is information about this on the care sheet included. It happens more in autumn than at other times for year. I hope this article helps you
I would only use the water with feed once a week and normal plain water at other times. I suspect watering daily is too frequently at this time of year.
Just keep the soil damp to the touch and not wet.
      We hope this helps

  5. Phew thanks so much for your help☺️
