Re-potting Outdoor Bonsai

Root pruning and re-potting of outdoor bonsai is best done in March (after the worst of the winter weather). Once the buds have started to swell it is too late to root prune - this would stress your bonsai.

We recommend that no more than a quarter of the root ball is removed, and that good quality free draining bonsai soil is used.

After re-potting do not feed your bonsai for at least a month. Feeding soon after root pruning or re-potting can result in scorching of the roots.
