Exceptional 30 Year old Chinese Elm Bonsai Tree – Master-Grown Ulmus parvifolia in Rich Blue Japanese Pot
A Wondrous Mature Bonsai with Exceptional Refinement
This extraordinary 30-year-old Ulmus parvifolia bonsai combines maturity, balance and refinement in one remarkable tree. Bonsai master Lloyd Noall of Bonsai Direct has carefully shaped and developed this specimen over decades. Every feature shows patience, skill and artistic vision.
The trunk displays exceptional taper, narrowing naturally from a broad, powerful base toward the apex. Strong taper creates movement, proportion and realism within bonsai design. Here, the taper feels smooth and completely natural, giving the tree impressive presence and visual strength.
Exceptional Nebari and Powerful Trunk Character
The exposed nebari, or surface root flare, immediately captures attention. Thick roots spread naturally from the base of the trunk and anchor the tree visually into the soil. Bonsai enthusiasts highly value strong nebari because it creates stability, maturity and authenticity.
Deeply textured bark adds another layer of age and realism. In addition, the flowing trunk line guides the eye smoothly upward through the design. Together, these features create the image of a mature elm tree in miniature form.
Soft Cloud-Like Foliage Pads and Fine Ramification
The canopy features beautifully refined foliage pads that resemble soft green clouds. Lloyd Noall carefully positioned each pad to create balance, openness and visual harmony throughout the tree. Even spacing between the pads allows light and depth to move naturally through the design.
This bonsai also displays excellent ramification. Ramification describes the fine network of twigs and secondary branches that develops through years of pruning and refinement. Strong ramification creates delicacy, density and realism within the canopy. Here, the branch structure appears refined, mature and beautifully detailed from every angle.
Rich Blue Japanese Pot with Specialist Glaze
This bonsai sits in a premium Japanese rectangular ceramic pot finished in an extraordinary rich blue glaze. Only Japanese ceramic glazes achieve this level of depth, richness and luminosity. The vibrant blue colour contrasts beautifully against the aged bark and deep green foliage, giving the entire composition a refined and artistic appearance.
Unfortunately, a matching ceramic drip tray is not available for this specialist pot. However, we specifically selected this container because its quality and colour suit the bonsai perfectly. To help protect indoor surfaces, we offer the option to include a very neutral brown plastic drip tray. We chose the most understated tray available so that it visually blends into the display and almost disappears beneath the pot. As with all bonsai displays, we still recommend placing a protective mat beneath any tray to guard against condensation and moisture over time.
