Seasonal Interest from Two Unique Flowering Bonsai
The Cherry Blossom bonsai (Prunus incisa ‘Kojo-no-mai’), sometimes known as the “Flight of the Butterfly” tree, is a hardy outdoor deciduous bonsai. In early spring it produces delicate flowers in soft shades of pink and white. As the season progresses, small ornamental cherry fruits may appear, followed by lush green foliage. During autumn the leaves transform into vibrant tones of red, orange, and gold before falling to reveal the elegant winter branch structure.
The Chinese Blush Tree bonsai (Loropetalum rubrum), also known as the Chinese Fringe Flower, offers a completely different display. This bonsai features deep purple foliage and striking hot pink flowers that appear during the warmer months. Its informal upright trunk and colourful canopy make it a lively and distinctive flowering bonsai. This bonsai can be grown in a very cool room, or outdoors with protection during winter.

Please note: We grow our cherry blossom bonsai trees outside and they are a deciduous bonsai species. They should be grown outdoors as they are fully hardy. They are early Spring flowerers, so you should see new buds in February/March. When out of leaf they still exhibit a lovely structure. From spring budding you get wondrous soft pink/white blossom, followed by lush lime green leaves. During autumn you get cherry fruits and spectacular autumn red and golden hues.

- Grow Cherry Blossom bonsai outdoors in a bright, open position so it can experience natural seasons. Keep the soil evenly moist, feed with Bonsai fertiliser during the growing season, and protect the pot from severe frost in winter. You may want to consider moving the Cherry Blossom into partial shade on very hot days to prevent leaf scorch, they can also scorch in excessive winds.
The Chinese Blush can be grown indoors, or outdoors (protect over winter) but if it is kept indoors, it must be kept in a cool room. Keep the soil just damp at all times and do not hard prune as this will cause die back. - Pet Friendly

Loropetalum Chinensis Rubrum
The Chinese Blush Tree is a member of the Witch-Hazel family and displays stunning purple foliage and bright pink spidery flowers. This is undoubtedly the most striking and colourful indoor bonsai.
Prunus Incisa 'Kojo-no-mai' is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosacea. It is a very small Fuji Cherry tree with zig-zagging branches and an abundance of flowers. Just as winter ends in early March, the tree bursts into life with lots of white, delicate looking flowers with pink centres. The foliage is serrated, with new foliage having a bronzed tinge and taking on a bright orange colour in the autumn. A dainty slow-growing, early white-flowering cherry, in Japan it is highly regarded as an ornamental tree.
