19-Year-Old Ficus retusa – Premium Banyan Bonsai with Powerful Nebari and Beautiful Trunk Taper
This exceptional 19-year-old Ficus retusa Banyan bonsai is a stunning example of mature bonsai artistry. Standing 47cm tall, it features a strong, flowing trunk and powerful surface roots (nebari) measuring over 4cm in diameter.
Years of expert care have created a beautiful tree with excellent proportions and a neat, compact canopy. Furthermore, its natural trunk taper gives the bonsai a wonderful sense of age and strength.
This premium indoor bonsai combines beauty, character and expert craftsmanship. As a result, it makes a magnificent centrepiece for any bonsai collection.
Powerful Nebari, Elegant Trunk Movement and Silvery Bark
The most striking feature of this Banyan bonsai is its powerful nebari. These impressive surface roots create a strong foundation and give the tree an aged appearance.
From this solid base, the trunk rises with beautiful movement and gradually narrows towards the crown. This natural taper creates a balanced shape and adds to the tree’s mature character.
In addition, delicate silvery striations decorate the bark. These attractive markings add texture and contrast beautifully with the rich green foliage.
Together, the strong roots, flowing trunk and mature bark create a truly eye-catching specimen.
Neat, Compact Foliage Shaped by Years of Careful Pruning
This 19-year-old Ficus retusa has a beautifully shaped canopy. Its neat foliage pads are the result of many years of careful pruning and expert training.
Each pad follows the natural movement of the trunk. Consequently, the tree has a balanced, elegant appearance with clearly defined layers of foliage.
The small, glossy green leaves bring freshness and colour to the design. Moreover, their compact growth allows the impressive trunk and surface roots to remain clearly visible.
This careful balance between foliage and trunk makes the bonsai especially attractive.
Fresh Turquoise Blue Ceramic Pot with Matching Drip Tray
We have recently repotted this premium Banyan bonsai into a brand-new turquoise blue glazed ceramic pot.
The fresh blue glaze provides a beautiful contrast against the green foliage and silvery bark. It also adds a bright, contemporary touch to this traditional bonsai.
A matching ceramic drip tray completes the display. As well as looking attractive, the tray helps protect furniture and indoor surfaces.
A Magnificent Indoor Bonsai Symbolising Strength and Longevity
The Banyan tree symbolises strength, stability, wisdom and longevity. Its powerful roots represent a strong foundation, while its spreading canopy reflects growth and endurance.
For this reason, a mature Banyan bonsai makes a thoughtful gift for a special occasion. It is also an excellent choice for anyone who appreciates the beauty of older bonsai trees.
Ficus retusa enjoys a warm, bright indoor position away from cold draughts. With regular care and suitable watering, this remarkable tree can continue to develop for many years.
We have carefully selected and photographed this individual specimen at our family-run Devon nursery.
You will receive the exact 19-year-old Banyan bonsai shown in the photographs, complete with its new turquoise blue ceramic pot and matching drip tray.
