Description

Broom-Style Ficus Bonsai – Felix, Elegant Upright Tree in Blue Pot

Meet Felix, a handsome broom-style Ficus bonsai (Ficus retusa) with a strong upright trunk, beautifully balanced branching and a lush canopy of glossy green foliage. Elegant yet full of character, this attractive indoor bonsai has the proportions and presence of a mature tree captured in miniature.

The trunk rises confidently from the soil before dividing into a network of branches that spread outwards to form the characteristic broom-shaped crown. This creates a wonderfully natural silhouette and gives Felix a sense of strength and maturity without losing the soft, balanced appearance that makes this bonsai style so appealing.

Classic Broom-Style Bonsai

Broom style is inspired by mature deciduous trees growing naturally in open landscapes. A defined central trunk supports branches that gradually spread outwards and upwards, creating a broad, rounded canopy.

Felix displays this classic form beautifully. His glossy foliage creates a rich green crown, while the visible trunk provides structure and draws the eye upwards through the tree.

As Ficus retusa responds particularly well to pruning, the canopy can be maintained easily with regular trimming. Over time, careful pruning will also encourage increasingly fine branching and greater ramification, allowing the bonsai to become even more refined as it matures.

An Easy-Care Ficus Bonsai

Ficus retusa is one of the most dependable indoor bonsai species and an excellent choice for someone buying their first tree.

Naturally vigorous and forgiving, it responds well to pruning and adapts successfully to normal indoor conditions. Position Felix in a cool, bright room with plenty of natural light and water thoroughly when the compost begins to dry.

Its resilience also makes this species particularly rewarding for beginners who want to learn how to prune and develop their own bonsai.

As a Ficus matures, its bark can develop attractive silvery striations and additional texture. Older trees may also produce fascinating aerial roots, adding another layer of character to the bonsai.

Presented in a Traditional Blue Ceramic Pot

Felix is presented in a deep blue ceramic bonsai pot that contrasts beautifully with his rich green foliage. A matching ceramic drip tray completes the display and helps protect the surface beneath the tree.

The traditional blue glaze complements the classic broom-style form without distracting from the tree itself, creating an elegant bonsai that looks equally at home in a living room, office or conservatory.

You will receive the exact bonsai shown in the photographs, so you can choose your individual tree with complete confidence.

Why Buy Your Bonsai from Bonsai Direct?

At Bonsai Direct, bonsai aren’t simply products we buy and sell. Growing and developing bonsai is at the heart of our family-run Devon nursery.

Our experience spans decades of commercial bonsai growing. We grow and develop many of our own bonsai trees, carefully working on their trunks, roots, branching and overall structure as they mature. This hands-on experience also allows us to grow unusual species and continually improve the quality of the trees we offer.

Every bonsai receives expert care from our nursery team before dispatch. We carefully prepare and securely package each tree for its journey, and our detailed care information and friendly aftercare mean we’re still here to help once your bonsai arrives.

For our individually photographed bonsai such as Felix, the photographs show the exact tree you will receive. You can therefore choose the trunk, shape and individual character you love rather than simply receiving a generic example.

Bonsai Variety

Fig (Ficus retusa) The fig has dark green glossy leaves and is unusual in that it will tolerate lower light levels. The fig makes a fantastic indoor bonsai and should be protected from the frost. It buds back very quickly after pruning and has an immense amount of character in the truck and aerial root system. A very powerful bonsai, fun and easy to care for. It is also less susceptible to pest attack. Protect from cold (min 10oC).
