Extra-Large Indoor Chinese Elm Bonsai Comprehensive Kit

Big Bonsai Tree – 18-Year-Old Chinese Elm Starter Kit

A Mature Chinese Elm Bonsai with Strong Structure

This Big Bonsai Tree features an impressive 18-year-old Chinese Elm, offering maturity, presence, and refined structure. The tree displays a thick, well-developed trunk with graceful branching and a dense canopy of small green leaves. These features create the look of a full-sized tree in miniature. We pot it in a blue glazed ceramic bonsai pot, which highlights the foliage and complements its classic shape. A dark-coloured drip tray keeps watering tidy and protects surfaces.

Because of its maturity and stability, this larger bonsai makes an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced growers.

The Chinese Elm – Evergreen Foliage and Classic Bonsai Character

The Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia) is an evergreen bonsai known for its fine serrated leaves and reliable growth habit. Its branches respond well to pruning, which allows you to maintain a balanced canopy and refine the tree over time. As the bonsai matures, the trunk continues to develop texture and character, while the foliage becomes fuller and more defined.

At 18 years old, this bonsai already shows established structure and strong taper. You can keep it indoors in a bright position throughout the year. It may also be placed outdoors, provided you protect it from hard frost. Each bonsai grows individually, so natural differences in trunk movement and branching give every tree its own unique character.

What’s Included

You will receive the 18-year-old Chinese Elm big bonsai tree planted in its blue ceramic pot. A dark-coloured drip tray accompanies the tree to help manage watering and maintain a clean display area.

We also include a bottle of bonsai feed to support healthy growth during the growing season. In addition, a pair of pruning scissors allows you to maintain the canopy and refine the tree’s shape as it develops. Finally, you will receive a watering can (your choice of colour) and a copy of our Bonsai Direct care handbook.

Symbolism and Lasting Appeal

The Chinese Elm symbolises inner strength, wisdom, intuition, and love. Its steady growth reflects patience and resilience, while its structured form represents harmony and stability. As you care for the tree over time, it becomes both a decorative focal point and a rewarding long-term pursuit.
