This Cherry Blossom starter bonsai tree is a 5-year-old outdoor bonsai grown from the hardy Prunus incisa ‘Kojo-no-mai’ variety. Our growers cultivate these trees outdoors so they develop strength and natural structure. In spring, the bonsai produces delicate blossoms in soft white and pink tones, while fresh green foliage fills the canopy through summer. During autumn, the leaves turn vibrant shades of orange and red before falling to reveal the elegant winter branch structure. Because every bonsai is individually grown, slight variation in shape and branching should be expected.
Please Note: This bonsai must be kept outdoors.

Description
Cherry Blossom Bonsai Tree – 5 Year Old Outdoor Bonsai
A Charming Cherry Blossom Starter Bonsai Tree for Beginners
This Cherry Blossom bonsai tree offers a wonderful introduction to flowering bonsai. Our growers carefully cultivate these 5-year-old trees so they develop the distinctive zigzag branching that defines this variety. As a result, each bonsai already shows attractive structure and natural movement.
These bonsai thrive in a garden, patio, or sheltered balcony where it can experience the natural seasons. At 5 years old, the tree has established roots while still allowing plenty of opportunity for future development.
Because every bonsai grows individually, the trunk shape and branching will vary slightly. Therefore, each Cherry Blossom bonsai tree arrives with its own character.
Seasonal Beauty from a Cherry Blossom Bonsai Tree
The Cherry Blossom bonsai tree (Prunus incisa ‘Kojo-no-mai’), often called the Fuji Cherry or “Flight of the Butterfly” tree, is admired for its graceful structure and changing seasonal display.
In early spring, delicate blossoms appear across the branches. These flowers open in soft shades of white with gentle pink tones and deeper pink centres. As a result, the tree produces the classic cherry blossom display that many people love.
Then, as spring progresses, fresh green leaves fill the canopy and bring vibrant life to the bonsai. Later in the year, the tree may produce small ornamental cherry fruits as it matures. During autumn, the foliage turns bright shades of orange and red, creating a striking seasonal transformation.
Even in winter, when the leaves fall, the elegant zigzag branch structure remains visible. Therefore, the Cherry Blossom bonsai tree continues to offer interest throughout the year.
What’s Included
This bonsai tree arrives planted in a ceramic bonsai pot and is ready to grow outdoors. You can place it straight into your garden, patio, or balcony where it can enjoy natural light and fresh air.
Because every bonsai is individually grown and shaped, slight variation from the photographs should be expected.
Symbolism and Why a Cherry Blossom Makes a Meaningful Gift
Cherry Blossom bonsai trees are widely associated with renewal, beauty, and the arrival of spring. As the blossoms appear each year, they remind us of the changing seasons and the beauty of new beginnings.
For this reason, a Cherry Blossom makes a thoughtful and meaningful gift. It offers lasting enjoyment while continuing to grow and develop over time.
Why Buy from Bonsai Direct
At Bonsai Direct, our experienced growers cultivate every bonsai with care and attention. Rather than mass-producing plants, we focus on healthy trees that show natural character and long-term potential.
We carefully package every bonsai before dispatch. In addition, we provide clear care guidance so you can look after your tree with confidence. As a result, thousands of customers across the UK trust Bonsai Direct for quality bonsai and expert advice.
Please note: We grow our cherry blossom bonsai trees outside. They are a deciduous, fully hardy species and must be grown outdoors. They are early spring flowerers, with buds forming in February/March. When out of leaf, they still display a lovely structure. Spring brings soft pink and white blossom, followed by lush green foliage and, in autumn, cherry fruits and vivid red and golden leaves.

Bonsai Variety
Prunus Incisa 'Kojo-no-mai' is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosacea. It is a very small Fuji Cherry tree with zig-zagging branches and an abundance of flowers. Just as winter ends in early March, the tree bursts into life with lots of white, delicate looking flowers with pink centres. The foliage is serrated, with new foliage having a bronzed tinge and taking on a bright orange colour in the autumn. A dainty slow-growing, early white-flowering cherry, in Japan it is highly regarded as an ornamental tree.
