Outstanding 5-Year-Old Money Tree Bonsai (Jade) with chunky trunk
Discover a truly beautiful Money Tree bonsai, also known as the Portulacaria afra or “Jade Tree”. This exceptional 5-year-old specimen displays a strong informal upright style, complete with a think trunk and textured bark. The trunk holds real character, and the branch placement creates an elegant open canopy. Its glossy, gem-like emerald leaves give this bonsai remarkable charm and presence.
This particular tree is potted into a brand-new blue oval ceramic bonsai pot, paired with a matching ceramic drip tray. The rich, deep glaze contrasts beautifully with the bright foliage and enhances the tree’s sophisticated look. It is a stylish, modern display piece that suits any interior space.

A Money Tree Bonsai with Meaning and Beauty
Symbolism and Significance
The Jade bonsai symbolises good luck, prosperity, growth and fresh beginnings, making it a thoughtful gift for milestones, housewarmings, birthdays, students or anyone taking a new step in life. Its positive symbolism makes it one of our most uplifting gift choices.
Remarkable Species Features
The Portulacaria afra is native to South Africa, where it thrives in warm, dry conditions. It is famous for its neat growth habit, compact branching and glossy leaf texture. As it matures, the bark becomes corky and full of character.
This species is also known as the Clean Air Tree, celebrated for its outstanding ability to absorb carbon and purify the atmosphere.
The Jade tree’s antiseptic sap is traditionally used for soothing rashes, stings, blisters and irritations. Though edible, the leaves have a sour taste — interesting, but not recommended for snacking.
Perfect for Beginners, Children and Busy Homes
Easy, Low-Water Care
This indoor bonsai is incredibly easy to care for. It prefers a warm position with good daylight, and it tolerates dry soil far better than wet soil. It needs less frequent watering than almost any other bonsai species.
A simple routine works best:
-
Keep the soil just damp, never wet.
-
Allow the top of the soil to dry slightly between watering.
-
Feed weekly with bonsai fertiliser during the growing season.
-
Avoid overwatering — Jade trees dislike soggy soil.
-
Prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage branching.
It is also one of the easiest bonsai to propagate, making it a fun family project.
A printed easy-to-follow care guide is included with your tree.
