Classic Chinese Juniper Bonsai Tree in Teal Oval Pot | 15-Year-Old Evergreen with Powerful Root Flare
This exceptional 15-year-old Chinese Juniper bonsai (Juniperus chinensis) showcases everything we love about this iconic species. Compact, expressive and full of natural presence, it stands 31cm tall yet carries the strength and maturity of a much larger tree. Its structure is superb: strong surface roots rise confidently from the soil, radiating outward to create a dramatic nebari that instantly commands attention. Above this powerful foundation, the trunk flows with gentle twists, beautifully aged reddish flaky bark and an elegant taper that leads into a wonderfully neat upper form.
Lloyd has recently potted this juniper into a brand-new teal oval ceramic bonsai pot, chosen for its ability to lift the soft blue-green tones of the foliage. The combination is striking. The glaze highlights the subtle cool hues of the canopy while bringing warmth to the textured bark, creating a balanced, artistic display with real depth and charm.
This is the exact bonsai you will receive.
A Classic Juniper Bonsai with Artistic Movement
The styling of this bonsai is beautifully composed. A lovely lower branch offers balance and visual flow, guiding the eye naturally around the tree. The foliage grows in tight, compact clusters, forming soft tufts that respond wonderfully to shaping over time. Despite its miniature stature, this tree has a strong and confident presence — the kind of character that makes junipers such timeless favourites.
About the Species | Juniperus chinensis
The Chinese Juniper is one of the most celebrated outdoor bonsai species thanks to its:
Evergreen, scale-like foliage with soft blue-green tones
Remarkably twisty trunk lines ideal for artistic styling
Reddish flaky bark that develops striking texture with age
Ability to thrive outdoors year-round in full sun
Strong symbolic links to resilience, protection and longevity
Association with The Karate Kid, where Mr Miyagi famously shaped a Chinese juniper bonsai
As junipers mature, they often reward you with small silvery-purple berries, adding seasonal interest and a touch of classic charm.
Resilient, Hardy & Ideal for Beginners
This juniper is wonderfully easy to care for. It thrives outdoors in a bright, sunny position and loves good airflow. Simply water when the soil begins to dry and avoid keeping it constantly wet. Its forgiving nature makes it a perfect choice for beginners, while its structure and styling potential also appeal to collectors and enthusiasts.
A free printed care guide is included with your order.

| Species | Chinese Juniper (Juniperus chinensis)A bonsai favourite. This wonderful evergreen bonsai has it all – naturally small foliage, incredible character throughout the trunk and branches, it’s evergreen and has beautiful flaky bark. The juvenile foliage of the juniper is spiky but as it matures soft ‘pads’ of foliage are formed. The juniper responds very well to training by pruning and wiring. Please be careful to check the wire weekly to prevent scaring. Junipers will tolerate a very sunny position and like to be kept on the dry side, in a free draining soil. Very hardy. |

| Maintenance | Positioning: Place in a bright outdoor position. It loves full sun but appreciates a little protection from the strongest midday heat in high summer. Watering: Allow the top of the soil to dry slightly between watering. Water thoroughly and let excess drain away. Check daily in warm weather. Feeding: Apply a balanced bonsai fertiliser every two weeks during the growing season, following the instructions on the bottle. Pruning: Pinch back soft new growth to maintain shape and encourage dense foliage pads. Carry out structural pruning in late winter. Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years in early spring using a free-draining, gritty bonsai soil mix. Note: Keep outdoors year-round. Protect from prolonged freezing conditions and strong, drying winter winds. |
