10-Year-Old Dawn Redwood Bonsai Forest | Five Tree Dwarf Forest
A Beautiful Five-Tree Dawn Redwood Forest
This delightful 10-year-old Dawn Redwood Bonsai Forest (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) brings together five strong miniature trees to create the appearance of a mature woodland landscape in miniature. Beautifully balanced and full of character, the individual trees work together to form one larger, wonderfully soft canopy.
Standing approximately 33cm tall overall, this is a particularly sweet and compact forest planting. Each of the five Dawn Redwoods has a trunk approximately 10mm in diameter, giving the composition plenty of substance while retaining the graceful appearance associated with this beautiful species.
This is the exact bonsai forest you will receive. We have photographed it individually so you can appreciate its shape, balance and character before choosing it for your collection.
Five Trees, One Beautiful Canopy
The art of a bonsai forest lies in making several individual trees appear as though they have grown naturally together for many years. Here, five Dawn Redwoods rise at slightly different positions to create depth and a pleasing woodland effect.
Their individual crowns blend beautifully to form a single larger canopy of fine, feathery foliage. The result feels wonderfully natural, with the different trunks adding interest beneath the soft mass of leaves above.
Dawn Redwood is especially suited to forest-style bonsai. In nature, these magnificent trees develop tall, upright forms, while their delicate foliage provides a beautiful contrast against the stronger trunks.
Fresh Lime Green Summer Growth
When we photographed this bonsai in mid-August 2026, fresh lime green growing tips were beginning to emerge across the canopy. These bright new shoots contrast beautifully against the more established green foliage and give the forest a fresh, vibrant appearance.
The foliage itself is one of the great attractions of the Dawn Redwood. Fine and feathery, it gives the canopy a light appearance despite the strength of the five trunks below.
As a deciduous conifer, Dawn Redwood also provides wonderful seasonal change. During autumn, its green foliage gradually develops warm bronze and copper shades before falling for winter. The bare winter silhouette then reveals the structure of the five trunks and branches before fresh foliage returns in spring.
Presented in a Rich Blue Bonsai Pot
The forest is planted in a tasteful rich blue oval ceramic bonsai pot. Its cheerful glaze provides a striking contrast against the vibrant green foliage without drawing attention away from the trees.
Elegant cloud feet lift the pot slightly and add an attractive traditional detail to the overall composition. The rectangular shape also provides an excellent foundation for the five-tree arrangement, giving the forest enough visual space to feel balanced and established.

Dawn Redwood Bonsai Forest Care
Dawn Redwood is a hardy and vigorous species that responds well to bonsai cultivation. Its strong growth and beautiful seasonal changes make it rewarding for both newer bonsai growers and experienced enthusiasts.
Position
Keep your Dawn Redwood Bonsai Forest outdoors throughout the year. Choose a bright position in full sun or partial shade. During particularly severe winter weather, protect the pot from prolonged freezing conditions while allowing the trees to experience their natural winter dormancy.
Watering
Dawn Redwoods enjoy plenty of moisture, particularly during active growth. Check the compost regularly and water thoroughly when the surface begins to feel slightly dry.
Do not allow the forest to dry out completely. A multi-tree planting can use a considerable amount of water during warm weather, so pay particular attention during hot and sunny periods.
Feeding
Feed weekly throughout spring and summer with a suitable bonsai fertiliser to support strong growth and healthy foliage. Reduce feeding as autumn approaches and stop during winter dormancy.
Pruning
Trim extending shoots during the growing season to preserve the compact forest silhouette and encourage finer branching. Selective pruning also helps maintain separation and balance between the five trees while keeping the canopy looking natural.
Carry out more substantial structural pruning during dormancy, when the foliage has fallen and you can clearly see the branch structure.
Repotting
Repot your Dawn Redwood forest approximately every two to four years in early spring, just as the buds begin to swell. Use a free-draining bonsai compost and take care to preserve the relationship between the five trees when working on the root system.
A Miniature Woodland to Enjoy Through the Seasons
There is something particularly captivating about a bonsai forest. Rather than representing a single mature tree, the five Dawn Redwoods create an entire miniature landscape, with individual trunks rising together beneath one harmonious canopy.
From the fresh lime green tips of summer and the warm bronze tones of autumn to the intricate bare structure of winter, this 10-year-old Dawn Redwood Bonsai Forest continually changes throughout the year. Its compact 33cm height, strong trunks and beautiful rich blue pot make it a distinctive outdoor bonsai with charm from every angle.
