Please note: the Cherry Blossom have naturally shed their leaves for winter dormancy — fresh new growth will return in spring.

This stunning outdoor bonsai, also known as Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra,’ features deep purple leaves, a unique twig structure, and delicate pale pink flowers that bloom in spring. Potted in a stylish navy blue ceramic pot, this bonsai thrives in full sun and is ideal for beginners. The kit includes essential tools like bonsai scissors, fertiliser, and a care handbook to ensure your tree grows beautifully. A thoughtful and lasting gift for any dad, it’s a perfect way to mark the occasion with something that grows just like his journey into fatherhood! This bonsai is a starter plant and is still in its early stages of growth, promising years of beauty and growth ahead.

Please note: We grow our cherry blossom bonsai trees outside and they are a deciduous bonsai species. They should be grown outdoors as they are fully hardy. They are early Spring flowerers, so you should see new buds in February/March. When out of leaf they still exhibit a lovely structure. From spring budding you get wondrous soft pink blossom, followed by lush purple leaves. During autumn you get cherry fruits and spectacular autumn red and golden hues.

Bonsai Variety

Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' stands out as a captivating ornamental Cherry Plum tree, celebrated for its lush, deep purple foliage and stems that can border on an almost ebony hue. During the months of March to April, 'Nigra' bursts into a profusion of single pink flowers, a bee-attracting spectacle that strikingly complements the unfolding bronze leaves. As the seasons progress, the foliage undergoes a captivating transformation, transitioning to a rich blackish-purple shade, and by autumn, it gracefully evolves into a stunning display of reds and oranges.
