A beautifully proportioned 12-year-old Serissa Bonsai (Serissa foetida) featuring spectacular exposed roots, graceful movement and a wonderfully refined canopy of miniature green leaves. Standing approximately 41cm tall, this impressive medium-sized indoor bonsai combines the drama of traditional Neagari styling with the delicate beauty of the Tree of a Thousand Stars.
Presented in a traditional blue-glazed ceramic bonsai pot, with an optional matching drip tray, this individually photographed specimen makes a delightful addition to a bright windowsill, desk or coffee table.
Spectacular Neagari Roots – Natural Artistry & Character
The outstanding feature of this beautiful Serissa is undoubtedly its dramatic exposed root structure.
Neagari is a traditional Japanese bonsai style in which the roots rise above the soil, creating the impression of a mature tree growing on exposed or rocky ground. This fascinating technique celebrates strength, resilience and the extraordinary beauty of nature.
Here, the roots rise confidently from the compost, twisting and flowing together to form a striking sculptural foundation. Their intricate shapes create wonderful movement and depth, while the elevated trunk gives the tree a distinctive, almost floating appearance.
Furthermore, the natural variation in the roots adds a wonderful sense of age and individuality. Every angle reveals something different, making this a particularly rewarding bonsai to admire.
Delicate Foliage & the Beauty of a Thousand Stars
Serissa (Serissa foetida) is affectionately known as the Tree of a Thousand Stars because of its charming, miniature white flowers.
Its naturally tiny leaves and delicate branching make it particularly suitable for bonsai cultivation. The attractive green foliage creates a beautifully refined canopy that contrasts wonderfully with the bold, exposed roots beneath.
In favourable conditions, Serissa can also produce delightful little star-shaped white flowers. These delicate blooms bring additional beauty and seasonal interest to an already captivating tree.
As an evergreen species, Serissa retains its foliage throughout the year, providing lasting colour and interest indoors.
Traditional Blue Ceramic Bonsai Pot
This lovely specimen is presented in a traditional blue-glazed ceramic bonsai pot. The rich blue glaze provides a beautiful contrast to the fresh green foliage and naturally coloured roots.
Its classic styling complements the tree without distracting from the extraordinary Neagari structure.
An optional matching ceramic drip tray is also available, allowing you to create an attractive, coordinated display while helping to protect your furniture.
At approximately 41cm tall, this is a particularly versatile medium-sized bonsai. It has enough presence to become a striking focal point, yet remains compact enough for a bright windowsill, desk or coffee table.
A Rewarding Indoor Bonsai
Serissa enjoys a bright indoor position with plenty of natural daylight. It appreciates consistent temperatures, so avoid cold draughts and direct heat from radiators.
Keep the compost evenly damp, allowing only the very top to become slightly dry before watering again. Additionally, occasional light pruning will help maintain the attractive canopy and encourage compact growth.
With thoughtful care, this charming species can provide years of enjoyment.
Symbolism – Good Luck, Hope & Well-Being
Serissa bonsai symbolises good luck, hope and well-being. Its delicate flowers, evergreen foliage and graceful character make it a meaningful gift for someone special.
The dramatic Neagari roots also evoke resilience and determination, creating a beautiful reminder of nature’s ability to flourish in challenging conditions.
