Description

Indoor Ficus Bonsai Tree – The Classic Banyan for Indoors

This is an astounding indoor ficus bonsai tree. This is the actual tree you’ll receive, presented in a luxurious shiny black ceramic pot with a matching drip tray-perfect for brightening up your home or workspace.

What sets this Ficus retusa apart is its thick, tapering trunk with striking silver bands and a wide root base, known as nebari, that gives the tree a grounded, mature look. The canopy is dense with glossy, deep green leaves that stay vibrant year-round, creating a lush, tropical vibe indoors. The sleek pot highlights the tree’s unique bark and foliage, making it a standout feature in any room.

Why choose a Ficus retusa bonsai?
Ficus retusa, also called the Banyan bonsai, is a favourite among bonsai lovers for its adaptability and forgiving nature. Native to Southeast Asia, this species can handle a range of indoor conditions and is especially good at purifying the air. Also, it’s easy to prune and shape, making it ideal for beginners and experienced growers alike. Unlike many tropical bonsai, Ficus retusa tolerates lower humidity and occasional missed waterings, so it’s perfect for busy lifestyles.

Interesting fact:
The Ficus retusa is closely related to the legendary banyan trees that grow massive aerial roots and can live for centuries. In the wild, banyans are known for creating their own forests by sending down roots from their branches. In bonsai form, you can sometimes encourage these aerial roots for a dramatic, ancient look! Furthermore, the root flare is incredible and the trunk features add an abundance of character.

Symbolically, the fig tree stands for abundance, renewal, and connection-qualities that make this bonsai a meaningful gift or a special addition to your own collection.

Bonsai Variety

Fig (Ficus retusa) The fig has dark green glossy leaves and is unusual in that it will tolerate lower light levels. The fig makes a fantastic indoor bonsai and should be protected from the frost. It buds back very quickly after pruning and has an immense amount of character in the truck and aerial root system. A very powerful bonsai, fun and easy to care for. It is also less susceptible to pest attack. Protect from cold (min 10oC).
