20-Year-Old Sabamiki Chinese Elm Bonsai – Full of Natural Character
This impressive 20-year-old Chinese Elm bonsai (Ulmus parvifolia) has been masterfully trained in the Sabamiki style, creating a captivating sense of age, texture and wild elegance. Grown by bonsai expert Lloyd Noall at our Mid Devon Bonsai Direct nursery, it’s a tree packed with woodland inspiration and quiet strength.
A Striking Sabamiki Trunk – Weathered and Worn with Time
The hollowed trunk is the real star of this bonsai – a dramatic Sabamiki feature that gives the appearance of an ancient tree shaped by years of natural forces. The trunk twists upward with strong movement and flow, while the gnarled base and weathered hollow bring depth and drama. Inspired by the wild trees we find in Devon’s forests, this design captures the spirit of the outdoors in miniature form.
There’s a beautiful balance between artistic styling and natural feel – every twist and branch looks as though it simply grew that way.

This tree is freshly potted into a premium ivory glazed ceramic pot, perfectly matched with a ceramic drip tray.
