One question we always get asked is ‘How do you pack the bonsai trees so they don’t get damaged’. So we thought we’d give you an overview of how they are packed and shipped, so you can rest easy about your Bonsai Direct gifts and trees.

Step 1:

We hand select the bonsai tree you ordered (if you have ordered from our Premium Range, you will receive the exact bonsai you see in the photos). Next, we water your bonsai to ensure it doesn’t dry out during shipping, and remove any old leaves. We thoroughly check each bonsai tree to ensure that they are in perfect condition. This one is a lovely Chinese Sweet Plum from our Premium Range.

Step 2:

After we have checked your bonsai tree, we bubble wrap the pot. This ensures that the pot doesn’t get damaged during delivery, and helps the soil retain moisture.

Step 3:

If you have selected gift wrap, we add this now. To create the perfect bonsai gift, you can add gift wrap and accessories once you add your bonsai tree to the basket. To gift wrap our bonsai trees, we place the bonsai in a cellophane bag, and then tie the top with a selection of ribbons or tags, or a beautiful shiny bow. We have gift wrap options available for all occasions, allowing you to create the perfect Bonsai Direct gift!

Step 4:

Next, we secure a cardboard fit mound around the base of the bonsai tree. Our fitments are specially designed so that the fit perfectly in our boxes. This prevents the bonsai tree from moving side to side in the box, and also helps protect the pot. For Christmas, we dig out our festive red fitments to bring some Christmas cheer!

Bonsai Direct gift accessories

Step 5:

This step involves picking all of your chosen accessories. We offer a whole range of accessories and add-ons, including care accessories, greetings cards, tags, balloons, and other gifting extras. We check your order thoroughly to ensure that everything is included, and everything is checked by multiple members of our team. If you do find any items are missing from your order, we sincerely apologise and ask that you kindly get in touch with us with a photo of everything that you have received so that we can rectify the issue.

Step 6:

We pack your bonsai tree into one of our bespoke bonsai boxes. Please note that these do state that there is a bonsai inside the box. This is not to ruin the surprise, but ensures that the couriers take extra care of your parcel. Furthermore, a layer of air cushion or thick corrugated cardboard is wrapped around the tree. These fit perfectly into our boxes so that the tree cannot move up or down in the box, protecting the bonsai tree in case the parcel accidentally gets turned upside down. Accessories are placed around the outside of the cushions or cardboard, keeping them safe and secure.

Step 7:

Once everything has been double checked and secured in the box, we close the box and add the shipping ing label. Most bonsai are shipped via DPD on a tracked next working day service. Please note that some smaller bonsai may be shipped using Royal Mail Tracked 24 hour service, and shipping boxes may vary slightly from images. On the day of delivery you will receive a delivery slot within which your bonsai will be delivered.
