This variety of maple bonsai tree has the most beautiful leaf shape. It also exhibits wonderful seasonal colours to the lime greens of spring to the warm gold of autumn. The leaves of Acer campestre, commonly known as field maple or hedge maple, are characterised by their simple, palmately lobed structure. Typically with three lobes though occasionally with five, and shallowly toothed or serrated edges. These small to medium-sized leaves, possess a smooth texture with a glossy appearance on the upper surface and may bear fine hairs along the veins on the underside. During spring and summer, they exhibit a vibrant green colour, transitioning to shades of yellow, orange, or red in autumn.

This species is the hardiest of the maple/acer family and can be grown outside all year round.
