20 year old Chinese Elm bonsai tree – Incredible structure and commanding features. Sweeping 3 dimensional serpentine hand crafted bonsai design.
Step into the world of bonsai with the Chinese Elm, an awesome bonsai renowned for its easy maintenance and exquisite beauty. Its flourishing canopy of lush leaves and sturdy trunk brings natural serenity to any indoor space, making it an ideal choice for beginners. With simple care including watering, light, and occasional pruning, this bonsai thrives, enchanting with its presence and adding tranquillity to your surroundings.
Crafted with supremely twisty shaping and lovely styling, this particular Chinese Elm boasts a shapely trunk that curves, creating a fantastic display. Arriving potted in a brand new deep teal/turquoise blue ceramic pot with a matching drip tray, it’s ready to grace your home with its elegance. It’s grounded with thick exposed roots reminiscent to woodland roots we sit on when we get tired from walking around.
“I’ve been admiring this Chinese Elm bonsai on the shelves of our rural Devon nursery for many years. It’s a tree that Lloyd has carefully worked on and styled over time, and I really appreciate the depth of field and the three-dimensional design he has brought to it. Strong exposed roots rise proudly from the soil and merge into a trunk full of character, giving the bonsai a sense of strength and maturity.
At just 36 cm in height, it isn’t a large bonsai, but the breadth and sweeping movement in its styling are truly remarkable. Lloyd’s artistry as a bonsai master shines through in this tree – every branch placement feels deliberate and balanced, yet natural.
Now around 20 years old, this bonsai has a powerful trunk and has very recently undergone a hard prune. As a result, it’s currently adorned with tiny lime-green leaves ready to burst into life. In just a couple of weeks, the whole canopy will flush with a brighter, fresh green that makes this species such a joy.
As an evergreen, it remains vibrant throughout the year and has always been a firm favourite among all of us here at Bonsai Direct.”
Moreover, the Chinese Elm carries symbolic significance, representing inner strength, intuition, wisdom, and love.
To keep the bonsai thriving ensure to place it in a position with good daylight but avoid direct sun. Check daily for water and keep the soil just damp and not too wet to touch. Mist the leaves to keep humidity and monitor to keep healthy and bug free. To promote growth, feed with a bonsai liquid fertiliser weekly.
