Description

Dwarf Chinese Juniper Bonsai (Juniperus chinensis) – Evergreen Bonsai Icon in Navy Pot

The Dwarf Chinese Juniper bonsai (Juniperus chinensis) is one of the most popular bonsai trees worldwide. Cherished for centuries in China and Japan, it symbolises strength, harmony, and protection. The Chinese Juniper gained global recognition when Mr. Miyagi styled one in the Karate Kid movies, inspiring a new wave of bonsai enthusiasts.

Presented in a brand new glossy deep blue bonsai pot, this tree makes a striking miniature bonsai that blends tradition with elegance.

Unique Features of the Chinese Juniper

The Chinese Juniper bonsai offers beauty, tradition, and resilience:

  • Evergreen Bonsai Foliage: Soft green needles keep their colour year-round, ensuring your bonsai always looks vibrant.

  • Textured Bark: Cinnamon-red bark peels with age, adding character and the look of maturity.

  • Graceful Shape: A tapering trunk, surface roots, and flowing branches create a natural, artistic style.

  • Seasonal Berries: Mature junipers may produce small purple-blue berries, adding seasonal charm.

  • Air-Purifying Qualities: Like many conifers, this species helps improve surrounding air quality.

Each tree is unique in form and character, giving your collection a living work of art.

Caring for Your Juniperus chinensis Bonsai

The Chinese Juniper bonsai thrives best outdoors in a bright, airy spot with plenty of sunlight. Keep the soil slightly moist but never waterlogged—check daily in summer as it can dry quickly. Protect it from extreme frost with a little shelter in winter. Regular pruning keeps its shape neat, while occasional wiring allows you to refine its form. Once a week during the growing season please feed with a liquid bonsai fertiliser.

Bonsai Variety

Chinese Juniper (Juniperus chinensis) A bonsai favourite. This wonderful evergreen bonsai has it all – naturally small foliage, incredible character throughout the trunk and branches, it’s evergreen and has beautiful flaky bark. The juvenile foliage of the juniper is spiky but as it matures soft ‘pads’ of foliage are formed. The juniper responds very well to training by pruning and wiring. Please be careful to check the wire weekly to prevent scaring. Junipers will tolerate a very sunny position and like to be kept on the dry side, in a free draining soil. Very hardy.
