This 14-year-old Chinese Elm bonsai tree (Ulmus parvifolia or Zelkova) is an excellent example living artwork. Its aged and textured trunk displays characteristic charm, decorated with gnarly features. The delicate leaves and thoughtfully arranged branches contribute to an open and even canopy. The trunk shows a few really interesting attributes. A mid-sized bonsai with immense charm and superb ramification – the twiggy-ness of the bonsai tree.
Ideal for beginners, the Chinese Elm features rich greenery and a defined structure. It’s potted in a matte sage green rectangular ceramic pot with a matching drip tray, blending aesthetics and practicality. The drip tray not only protects surfaces during watering but also helps maintain humidity which is particularly important during the winter months when the heating is on. The included Chinese Stilt House sits perfectly on the soil, shaded by the canopy.

It gives the tree that solid, mature feel without being overly heavy. The structure is really clean right now too. It was hard pruned just a couple of weeks ago, so it has that fresh, uncluttered look that shows off the trunk and branching beautifully.
Very soon, new buds will start to pop, and the canopy will fill in with fresh growth, making the foliage pad even denser and more refined. It’s always exciting to see that transformation this time of year.
