Larger Sized & Impressive Chinese Elm Bonsai Tree Form
The elegant trunk of this bonsai exhibits a smooth flow, creating a sense of dynamic movement and energy within the tree’s structure. Its gnarled surface, etched with fine fissures and subtle ridges, tells the story of its long journey from a young sapling to a mature specimen. The bark, likely a mottled tapestry of greys and browns, adds depth and character to the overall appearance.
This twisty trunk serves as the bonsai’s focal point, drawing the eye and anchoring the entire composition. The trunk’s twists and turns influence the positioning of primary branches, guiding them in complementary directions that enhance the tree’s natural flow.
The trunk’s impressive structure also affects the bonsai’s silhouette, creating a sense of proportion and balance. Lower branches likely emerge from the curves of the trunk, following its contours and creating a harmonious overall design. At the base of the trunk, you will appreciate the exposed root design.
This Chinese elm’s powerful trunk not only provides a strong visual foundation but also influences the distribution of foliage. The canopy spreads outward from the trunk’s curves, creating a broad and sweeping design, that highlight the trunk’s twisting form. This interplay between the solid, commanding trunk and the more delicate foliage creates a captivating contrast that is the hallmark of a well-crafted bonsai.
Unique & Individually Designed
The aged texture of its trunk adds character and artistic charm, while its striking trunk shape showcases oriental design. The canopy, adorned with tiny leaves and thoughtfully positioned branches, displays grace and refinement.
With its lush green foliage, the Chinese Elm is an ideal choice for bonsai beginners. Also known as Ulmus parvifolia, this larger-sized bonsai boasts a refined structure, well-defined foliage pads, and a commanding presence.

How to Care for this Sensational Bonsai – An Easy to follow care guide is included.
1. Location: This well established bonsai is not fussy about location. If outdoors, protect the tree from extreme weather conditions like strong winds, heavy rain, harsh sunlight and frosts. Indoors, place it near a bright (indirect sunlight) window but away from direct heat sources like radiators or air conditioners.
2. Watering: The goal is to maintain the soil so that it is just damp. Check the top soil daily; if it feels dry to the touch, it’s time to water. During hotter months or windy conditions, more frequent watering may be necessary. Use a watering can with a fine nozzle to avoid disturbing the soil or roots. This bonsai is potted into Akadama. A top quality Japanese Bonsai Soil. The Akadama will turn lighter in colour to indicate that it may need a little water.
3. Humidity: If kept indoors, consider using a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles to increase the ambient moisture around the tree. This is best practice especially in winter when the heating is on and the air is drier. Alternatively please mist the leaves regularly with water.

4. Feeding: A balanced, liquid bonsai fertiliser is ideal. Apply weekly throughout the year. One bottle will last approximately one year for a single bonsai. It is a concentrated solution which goes a long way when diluted.
5. Pruning: Regular pruning is essential to maintain shape and promote healthy growth. Prune back new growth to promote bushier, denser foliage.
6. Repotting: Larger, older bonsai may not need frequent repotting and can go 3-5 years between sessions. When repotting, be gentle with the root system. Trim back a small portion of the roots to encourage new growth, but be cautious not to remove too much. Use fresh bonsai soil toro replace and which has been removed during root pruning. Alternatively, you may simply prefer to choose a larger pot; in which case root pruning is likely to be unnecessary.
7. Pest and Disease Management: We use a plant invigorator spray as a preventative measure. This is a great product which can be used on other plants. It also acts as a foliar feed. Highly recommended.
