How to Care for Your Purple Beech Bonsai Tree
Caring for your Purple Beech Bonsai tree (Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’) is a rewarding and easy care bonsai variety. This deciduous tree thrives in bright, indirect sunlight and should be positioned where it can receive at least a few hours of morning or late afternoon sun. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, as the Purple Beech prefers well-draining soil. Regular pruning is essential to maintain its shape and promote healthy growth, focusing on removing dead or overcrowded branches.
Additionally, fertilise your bonsai tree during the growing season, from spring to early autumn, with a specific bonsai fertiliser. Protect your bonsai from extreme temperatures, especially harsh long-lasting winter frosts, by bringing it indoors or using a cold frame. With these care tips, your Purple Beech Bonsai tree will flourish and become a stunning focal point in your collection. This bonsai is absolutely fine outside all year round and during winter months will be watered by the rain. It is only for long periods of snow or ice that it may need a little protection. We have never brought it inside but our nursery is based in south-west England.
