This 15-year-old dwarf Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia) is a truly creative and artistic indoor bonsai, grown and styled with care here on our Mid Devon nursery. It has been cultivated slowly over time to develop a compact, dwarf structure with beautiful natural ramification—creating an elegant and highly detailed canopy of miniature leaves. Each branch has been thoughtfully placed to enhance the tree’s overall structure and to show off the refined foliage pads in a visually balanced way. Potted into a brand new ivory oval ceramic bonsai pot with a matching ceramic drip tray, this bonsai is ready to display straight away and would make a thoughtful and memorable gift. The light finish of the pot contrasts perfectly with the bright green of the Elm’s naturally small leaves, enhancing its year-round charm.

There’s a sense of age and resilience embedded in its form, giving it a dramatic and powerful presence that anchors the entire composition.
One of the most striking features is the presence of uros—these are natural-looking hollows or cavities in the trunk, often created where branches have died back and the wood has decayed over time. In bonsai, uros are highly valued because they evoke the effects of weathering and age, suggesting a tree that has endured hardship in the wild. Here, they add depth and narrative, making the tree feel alive with history.
The trunk itself is beautifully craggy, with a rugged, uneven texture that enhances this impression of maturity.
