A very pretty 7 year old raft-style Ash bonsai in vibrant blue ceramic pot.
The trunk displays textured bark and exposed roots which perfectly support the trunk; the trunk displays immense character.
The leaves are fresh and sit on excellently placed branches. The deep red stems really help to enhance the foliage!
The Ash grows purple flowers which appear before the leaves in spring. In late summer and Autumn, winged fruits or ‘keys’ will grow; they will then fall from the tree in winter.
In Norse mythology, ash was known as the ‘Tree of Life’ and the first man on Earth was said to have come from an ash tree. The Ash tree was thought to have medicinal and mystical properties, the wood was burned to ‘ward off evil spirits’. Still today it is sometimes known as the ‘Venus of the woods’.
In the bonsai world a raft-style is where the trunk runs horizontally along the ground. It takes its design from a tree in the wild which has blown over and then re-shooted, forming new multi-trunks. It is an extremely artistic style of bonsai.
