Take a good look at your bonsai and get to know it before you start.
You need to identify the main branch structure.
Prune long shoots back to the main branch system to form a neat foliage pad.
Remove crossing shoots which cover and clutter the main branches & trunk.
Once pruned the main branches should be well defined with an open structure.
The basic shape of your bonsai will now be clear and easy to see.
New foliage buds will begin to emerge.
