Cherry Blossom bonsai, also known as Prunus kojo no mai, is a popular choice among bonsai enthusiasts. Its delicate pink and white blossoms represent renewal and the fleeting nature of life, making it a popular symbol in Japanese culture.
The Cherry Blossom bonsai is an exquisite free flowering bonsai with cherry like fruits. It produces delicate pink and white flowers that bloom in early spring, attracting bees and other pollinators. The tree has a zigzagging growth habit, and its leaves turn a vibrant red and gold in the fall before dropping for winter.
Symbolism:
In Japanese culture, the Cherry Blossom represents the transience of life, a notion known as mono no aware. This idea suggests that everything, including life itself, is temporary and should be appreciated for its beauty while it lasts. The Cherry Blossom is a perfect example of this concept as its blossoms only last for a short period, making it a poignant symbol of the fleeting nature of life.
In addition to representing the transience of life, the Cherry Blossom bonsai also symbolises renewal and the beginning of a new cycle. In Japanese culture, the Cherry Blossom is a sign that spring has arrived, and it is often associated with the start of the school year and the beginning of a new chapter in one’s life.
Potted into an Oxide Bronze Metallic ceramic pot:
When choosing a pot for your Cherry Blossom bonsai, it’s essential to select one that complements the tree’s delicate beauty. The Oxide Bronze Metallic ceramic pot is an excellent choice as it adds an element of sophistication and elegance to the tree while allowing its beauty to shine through.
The Oxide Bronze Metallic ceramic pot has a metallic sheen that catches the light, creating an eye-catching display. The pot’s dark color also provides a striking contrast to the Cherry Blossom’s pink and white flowers, making them stand out even more.
When caring for your Cherry Blossom bonsai, it’s essential to keep it in a location that receives plenty of sunlight and to water it regularly. The tree is relatively low-maintenance and is an excellent choice for beginners or those looking for a beautiful addition to a garden.
Please note: We grow our cherry blossom bonsai trees outside and they are a deciduous bonsai species. They are early Spring flowerers, so you should see new buds in February/March. When out of leaf they still exhibit a lovely structure. From spring budding you get wondrous soft pink/white blossom, followed by lush lime green leaves. During autumn you get cherry fruits and spectacular autumn red and golden hues.
