I first imported it from China, but since then it has been grown on, carefully refined, and shaped with patience and time. Watching it develop has been a true joy.
What pleases me most about this bonsai is its neat, clean habit and the way the foliage pads have matured into something so refined and balanced. At the base, the Nabari is exceptional – strong, powerful roots radiate out with confidence, giving a real sense of age and stability. Above that, the trunk has a gentle, natural movement that feels unforced, almost like it has grown this way on its own in the wild. There’s a soft artistry to it that I find very special.
I’ve only just repotted it, choosing this deep blue oval ceramic pot. I felt the colour would bring out the richness of the bark while at the same time setting off the fresh, bright greens of the new growth. To me, it frames the tree beautifully, enhancing without overpowering.
This is one of those bonsai that I would describe as living art. It doesn’t shout for attention, it draws you in quietly, and once you stop and really look, you see all the little details that make it truly unique. For me, it’s a tree of quiet strength and natural elegance – a bonsai that will only continue to grow in character over the years.”
