This beautiful English Elm (Ulmus) outdoor bonsai tree features serrated leaves, fresh colours, and a wonderful structure. The tree grows dark pink to red flowers that hang in tassels, appearing between February and March. Once pollinated by the wind, these flowers turn into tiny winged fruits known as samaras. I must add that I have yet to see the flowers on this specific bonsai. It maybe that we have pruned off the flower buds or that it is not quite old enough to flower yet.

The leaves of the English Elm are small, dark green, and serrated, with a rough texture on the upper surface and a softer, slightly hairy underside. Furthermore, they create a lush and vibrant canopy that enhances the tree’s overall appearance.

Additionally, the trunk has beautiful texture and has a sensational taper, gradually reducing in size as it reaches the apex of the tree. This exquisite design contributes to the tree’s elegant and natural look. Elm wood, historically preferred, was dedicated to Morpheus, the god of sleep.

Potted in a navy blue ceramic pot, this stunning little tree is ready for growing on.
