Chinese Sweet Plum Bonsai Tree – Broom Style with Sculptural Exposed Roots
Bring elegance and quiet character into your home with this beautiful Chinese Sweet Plum bonsai, Sageretia theezans. This unusual bonsai tree has been carefully trained in a classic broom style, where the branches fan out gracefully to form a soft, rounded canopy. The silhouette feels balanced and mature. It has presence without overpowering a space.
What truly sets this bonsai apart is its exposed root structure. The roots arch gently over the soil before anchoring into the earth. They resemble the relaxed shape of resting an arm on a bent knee. This natural, sculptural detail gives the tree personality and depth. It draws the eye. It invites a closer look.
We have added a small Japanese lantern ornament at the base. It creates a peaceful scene and enhances the sense of landscape within the pot. The tree sits in a rich blue ceramic pot and comes complete with a matching ceramic drip tray. The colours complement the deep green foliage beautifully.

Care Guide for Sageretia theezans
Chinese Sweet Plum is a rewarding indoor bonsai. It responds well to consistent care and thrives in bright conditions.
Position
Place your bonsai in bright, indirect light. A south- or west-facing window works well. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
Watering
Check the soil daily. Water thoroughly when the top layer feels slightly dry. Do not let the soil dry out completely. Allow excess water to drain into the matching ceramic drip tray and empty it after watering.
Feeding
Feed every two weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid bonsai fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
Pruning
Trim new shoots regularly to maintain the broom shape. This encourages fine branching and a dense canopy.
General Care
Maintain room temperatures between 15–22°C. Mist occasionally to increase humidity, especially during winter heating months.
At Bonsai Direct, we believe a bonsai should feel personal. It should tell a story. This Chinese Sweet Plum does exactly that. It combines craftsmanship, character, and calm in one living piece of art.
