I was absolutely delighted with Bonsai Direct’s service! I ordered my tree a fortnight ahead because there was a cold snap coming. True to their word, the tree was packed up beautifully and arrived when the weather had turned again. It was packed very securely, the soil was nice and damp so they’d clearly given it a soaking before it set off, and the little tree was in great condition - even a few flower buds! When people explore types of bonsai trees, I always encourage them to look beyond appearance alone. Each bonsai species grows with its own pace, habits, and character, and understanding those differences is what turns a plant into something truly meaningful. Choosing between bonsai varieties is less about right or wrong and more about finding a tree that fits naturally into your home and lifestyle.

Our indoor bonsai varieties are selected because they perform well in real UK homes. Flowering bonsai, such as the Fukien Tea Tree (Carmona microphylla) and the Tree of a Thousand Stars (Serissa foetida), bring gentle seasonal interest with delicate white flowers in summer. Some bonsai varieties suit modern, busy lifestyles better than others. The Jade Tree, often called the Money Tree (Portulacaria afra), needs minimal watering and carries strong symbolism of prosperity and good fortune. Ficus bonsai are equally practical, thriving in rooms with lower natural light while developing glossy leaves and striking aerial roots.
