Lloyd has spent the last 30 years caring for some of these bonsai trees, which range from 20 – 40 years old. We have meticulously pruned and styled them on a weekly basis.

This exquisite pruning and styling has taken many decades to achieve. Please look carefully at the photographs; they show the immense detailing in the trunk flow, exposed roots and a beautiful canopy for each bonsai. Correspondingly every bonsai is potted into a beautiful ceramic pot.

Lloyd specialises in nurturing and styling large bonsai trees, particularly those hardy enough to thrive in outdoor conditions. His collection includes majestic species like Oak bonsai trees (Quercus), Maple bonsai trees (Acer), and native varieties such as Beech and Larch—each uniquely tailored to captivate any grower.

“Large outdoor bonsai trees have a commanding presence” Lloyd explains. “They’re living sculptures, combining age, artistry, and nature in a way that speaks to people on a deep level.”

Specimen Outdoor Bonsai Trees

Lloyd highlights that big bonsai trees are not just about their size. The quality and details on their form are unique. Naturally aged these big bonsai beautiful showcase beautiful nebaris’ (root flare), strong powerful trunks, twisting branches and trunk flow and excellent ramification of the twigs. It can take decades to achieve such wonders in living art. With time the bark becomes more rugged. The foliage pads become thicker and neater, and the leaf size reduces.

Lloyd emphasises the unique appeal of hardy bonsai trees for outdoor settings: “These large outdoor bonsai trees for sale are not just plants; they’re investments in living art. They’ve weathered seasons, adapted to pruning, and developed character that can’t be replicated in younger trees.”

These big outdoor bonsai trees offer several advantages:

He adds “Their larger soil volume acts as a buffer, reducing the frequency of watering and the risk of over or under-watering.” Lloyd also points out, “The mature structure of these trees means they require less frequent styling and pruning, allowing the owner to focus on maintenance rather than constant shaping.” Lloyd finishes by saying “Their size and hardiness make them more forgiving of occasional lapses in care, which is particularly beneficial for those new to bonsai cultivation.” It is important to note that an outdoor bonsai benefits from the natural humidity of is environment. Growers find big outdoor bonsai easier to care for, especially during autumn and winter months, when much of the watering is done naturally by the rain.
