The Tree of a thousand stars (Serissa foetida) is a lovely indoor bonsai variety. It displays an abundance of beautiful star-shaped small white flowers during mid-late summer. Consequently, this bonsai is often known as a Snowrose.
Also, it has textured creamy bark and the artistic root structure make this a truly ornamental indoor bonsai choice.

This bonsai requires a slightly more delicate touch, but the effort will be most worthwhile. It is a variety which prefers to be kept slightly drier and not too wet.

The Serissa foetida – A Symbol of Hope and Well-Being

Bonsai expert Holly shares her insights on the Serissa foetida, commonly known as the Tree of a Thousand Stars or Snowrose bonsai. This enchanting species is celebrated not only for its artistic potential but also for its symbolic meanings of well-being, good luck, and hope.

“The Serissa foetida is a fantastic choice,” Holly remarks. “Its delicate beauty with small, glossy green leaves that create a lush backdrop for the tree’s stunning flowers. During the spring, the Serissa bursts into bloom with petite white flowers that resemble a starry sky, hence its nickname, the Tree of a Thousand Stars. Holly explains. “The combination of the lush foliage and the delicate blooms creates a truly enchanting display.”

The trunk of the Serissa bonsai tree is another highlight, showcasing a creamy textured surface that adds depth and character to the bonsai. “The trunk develops a beautiful, gnarled appearance over time, which enhances the artistic quality of the tree,” Holly notes. “This texture, combined with the vibrant foliage and flowers, makes the Serissa a truly artistic species

“An interesting fact about the Serissa is its ability to flower multiple times throughout the year, providing ongoing visual interest. “With proper care, you can enjoy the beauty of its blooms not just in spring, but throughout the growing season,” Holly adds.

The Serissa tree is native to subtropical regions of Southeast Asia, including areas in China, India, and Japan. Often growing in open forests and along riverbanks. “While the non-variegated form is most common and stronger form, there is also a variegated variety with leaves edged in white or cream”, Holly adds.

Beautiful Bonsai Tree Range

Bonsai expert Holly literally grew up with a pair of bonsai scissors in her hand. As Lloyd’s eldest daughter, Holly has benefitted from growing up on the nursery. Despite being in her early twenties, Holly already has many years of bonsai experience under her belt. She is passionate about the environment and environmental issues and wants to continue the journey her parents have started.
