1 What is a UK Plant Passport (PP)?
A UK Plant Passport (PP) is an official label for the movement of plants within Great Britain (GB). It demonstrates compliance with all plant health requirements for the relevant plant.
2 What is the purpose of Bonsai Plant Passports (PP)?
PPs ensure that plants are traced throughout the supply chain and declare compliance with plant health requirements such as freedom from pests.
3 What information does a Plant Passport (PP) contain?
A Plant Passport (PP) may simply be very small text line. It is not an official document like a UK passport. It may just be a code. This code will not mean anything to you. It is just a number which will relate to the nursery upon which the bonsai tree was grown. It identifies the batch of the bonsai plants on our nursery.

UK Plant Passport Format
The UK plant passport will contain the information shown on the left.
UK plant passports contain the following information
- include the words ‘UK Plant Passport’
- include the letters ‘A, B, C, D’, known as ‘parts A to D’, with information following each letter
- part B (registration number) must not have a ‘GB’ prefix because this was only necessary on EU plant passports to differentiate between member states
- the words ‘UK Plant Passport’ must be printed in English at the top of the plant passport
- no flag
